If Wishes Were Horses

If wishes were horses, most Americans would have known that Iraq and Afghanistan are just the latest victims of the colonial behemoth in a continued saga of American imperialism and not any thing else. That throughout its imperialistic expedition, Americans have firmly believed that the United States was God’s chosen nation and, therefore, on course to divine destinies. They would have known Senator Albert J. Beveridge’s speech to Congress that exemplifies this American attitude as nothing else does, “…and thanksgiving to Almighty God that He has marked us as His chosen people, henceforth to lead in the regeneration of the world…” If wishes were horses.
If wishes were horses, most Americans would have known that, consequent to this belief of American leaders, the U.S. had, even before the deployment of troops for the invasion and occupation of Iraq, around 752 military installations located in more than 130 countries with actual American military contingents stationed in 65 different foreign countries. They would have known that like all occupying powers, Americans have around 70,000 U.S. troops in Germany, 40,000 in Japan and about 37,000 in South Korea, where they have been since 1951. Add to it now around 140,000 troops (not counting the 100,000 Blackwater type mercenaries) in Iraq and another 27,000 in Afghanistan and one gets a fair inkling of American’s idea of ‘regeneration of the world’ the American way. If wishes were horses.
If wishes were horses, most Americans would have known that that is THE reason their leaders believe that they could, by divine privilege, take any land they pleased. And that the land on planet earth, not just at home, was rightfully theirs and that every one else was merely squatting on their territory. Historically, therefore, their country has come off as an obstinate nation that would take what it wanted at any cost, 9/11 or no 9/11, the world opinion be damned. They would have known that surpassing by far the brutal ventures typical of European colonizers, the U.S. has, during the past several hundred years, annihilated millions of Native Americans, conquered half of Mexico, occupied Hawaii, subjugated the Philippines and taken the whole of Iraq and Afghanistan butchering a colossal number of the indigenous populations in all these places. If wishes were horses.
If wishes were horses, most Americans would have known that not only has their country rejected a Security Council resolution calling on states to observe international law, their country itself is a leading terrorist state and has been condemned by the World Court for international terrorism (in 1986). The ‘War on Terror’, therefore, is unwinnable because America needs to then declare a war on its own self and that it won’t. If wishes were horses.
If wishes were horses, most Americans would have known that if by ‘terrorism’ only the ‘terrorism of others’ is meant then bombing the countries from where those terrorists come is not the solution to the problem but in fact a part of the problem. For if that had been the case the British would have bombed Belfast for IRA’s bombing of London and one earlier American administration would have bombed Timothy McVeigh’s home town for Oklahoma bombing. They did not. If wishes were horses.
If wishes were horses, most Americans would have known the sordid history of their country’s contemptuous attitude toward smaller countries of this planet. They would have known, for example, that back in the 80s, a tiny country by the name of Nicaragua was subjected to violent assault by their country in which tens of thousands of people died with that country itself substantially destroyed. They would have known that rather than responding by setting off bombs in Washington, a la the American way, the poor Nicaraguans went to the World Court that ordered the U.S. not only to stop the atrocities but also to pay reparations. The U.S. scornfully responded by escalating the attacks. The Nicaraguans next went to the Security Council who ruled in their favor. The U.S. derisively vetoed the resolution. The Nicaraguans then obtained a similar resolution from the General Assembly. The U.S. and Israel opposed that one for two years in a row. If wishes were horses.
If wishes were horses, most Americans would have known that the whole world is cognizant of the horrible injustice to the Palestinians and America’s blind allegiance to the perpetrator. And that this perpetrator, their bosom buddy Israel, invaded the West Bank and Gaza 35 years ago and over the course of these 35 years Israel has killed, blinded, mutilated, crippled and disfigured thousands of men, women and children, destroyed thousands of homes, businesses, hospitals, and schools, incarcerated and tortured hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. If wishes were horses.
If wishes were horses, most Americans would have known that the world does not hate them for the values cherished by them; it rather aspires for the same. It abhors their duplicitous attitude, their hypocritical behavior and their cruel conduct on the world stage. It loathes them for their ‘freedom’ cries while sitting smugly atop massive piles of human corpses. It despises their double embrace of the dictators the world over while singing sweet ‘democracies’ to their subjects. It hates them for their ruthless killing of half a million Iraqi children and then calling the effort, “worth the price”. If wishes were horses.
If wishes were horses, most Americans would have known that over the years they have become too strong for their own good. They are all muscle and sinew now and no brains. They would have known that with the deadly, single minded purpose of a troll, they trample on through the blood and bones of their diabolical administrations’ innocent victims without hearing their cries. They would have known what their great country has come down to. They would have heard the windy, lonely, desperate last cries of the soul of America across its forlorn skies each night as it continues to crash into black nothingness;
Oh! Oh! This fiery height!
Oh, my feet of fire!
My burning feet of fire
(Algernon Blackwood, The Wendigo)
If wishes were horses.

In the United Vegetative State of America, Anwaar Hussain, a Masters in Defense and Strategic Studies, delivers a comprehensive and unsettling analysis of the dissolution of liberty in America and how an administration of neo-conservatives is using the threat of lost freedoms and increased terrorism as a justification for international aggression and violence.

Hi Anwaar,
I agree with what you say.
Isn’t it true that most organised religions have political aspirations?
Beveridge, Bush, Osama - are a few of the flag bearers of the religious right, which seeks political powers to extend their imperial agenda.
Israel is a ‘Jewish’ state. There is nothing secular about that. There is nothing democratic in it too; even if they elect a president or a parliament.
Then there is the agenda of a Hindu empire, a Muslim World, a Christian Nation…
We will only find peace in Palestine, find peace in the entire Middle East - when people stick to their faith, and abhor the idea of having states on the basis of their religious affiliation. The mistake Pakistan made; the basis of founding the country was religion.
I have very pious and god loving people as friends - muslims, christians, hindus, buddhists, and even a jew. I always see them first as a human being, and I hope they see me the same way.
Cannot blame the US for everything. Yes, the American governments have a bad record… but then, what has other nations done to protect the innocent lives in Palestine? If America is feeding the evil Israel, how come none of the Arabian countries or Pakistan stop doing business with the US?
Hi Sasha,
I quote;
“Cannot blame the US for everything. Yes, the American governments have a bad record… but then, what has other nations done to protect the innocent lives in Palestine? If America is feeding the evil Israel, how come none of the Arabian countries or Pakistan stop doing business with the US?”
Partly a brutal targeting by Americans of any such help to Palestinians, like the Syrian or Iranian help, and partly a sickening duplicity of these tyrant-ruled Muslim nations…is my answer to your question Sasha.
Why don’t other nations intercede? What’s in it for me? Where’s the profit? No further than that.

Total lies are exposed and discarded at the very first veracity test. Total truth seems so fairytale like that it becomes difficult to be accepted. So all those thousands and the vested media use half truths to influence the gullible millions. These millions relax in front on their TV screens after a hard days work, and absorb what they hear and see, and form opinions on these very carefully orchestrated images and rhetoric to later forcefully echo and defend the theories which a court of law will classify as hearsay. If media reports and analysis are subjected to a similar treatment as in a court of Law; like for instance, one proven false statement of a witness would render the entire testimony null and void, we might learn more truths. This of course will be political suicide for many popular world leaders. The hype and all the images of 9/11, carefully sifted and then repeatedly hammered into the eyes and minds of the world generally the world and specifically the American public is a case in point. And you will agree a very strong case, despite all the evidence collected by honest people, the majority of which are Americans themselves.
Another flawless article Anwaar, and such a pleasure to read, as always!
Hello Anwaar,
Thank you for this excellent article. I have republished it at Uncommon Thought http://www.uncommonthought.com.....s_were.php and at CJO’s Avenger http://www.bestcyrano.org/avenger212/?p=102. I personally appreciate this article because it emotionally hits my frustration at this point in time.
Hope all is well with you.

Anwaar:
It was a bit laughable to hear Bush speak at the UN about the suppressive military junta in Myanmar (Burma) that the US now opposes. Yet Bush is fully supportive of the military coups and junta in Pakistan. It seems that the stacked deck in Pakistan……….. called the “legislature” in American terms……… has already voted to extend Musharraf’s term…… long before the people have voted.
Perhaps you read that this week Bush and CIA Gates (now Sec of Defense) (for the offense) have asked for another $190 billion for the war in Iraq.
What my sources tell me……… and was not published in the American press:
Jewish Senator Lieberman introduce a secret war bill………. and it was secretly voted on and passed………. a non-binding war resolution………. that permits Bush to use the $190 billion to attack Iran! This was a signal and thumbs up for the White House to begin the war against Iran.
Meanwhile the US has spent over $100 million to hire the Kurds to attack Iran from the north. Perhaps you may have heard the newest revelation about Dick Cheney asking Israel to bomb Natanz, Iran…….. so that the Iranians would react……… so that American would have an excuse to decimate Iran.
The demonizing of Iran and its leaders is now in full swing. There is little way that Iran can avoid war……….. short of total capitulation and surrender. The SECRET classified vote in the Senate…….. indicates our own secret government. The american people are not aware that Bush is fully committed to war in Iran. The US is no longer a democracy.
A couple of years ago, I wrote you that Bush is fully committed to $100 barrel oil by the time he leaves office. He has nearly achieved that goal. At the time, oil was in the $50 to $60 region. The oil barrons and the jewish masters are pulling the strings…….. and people must die to serve the god of material riches.
It doesn’t matter if Iran has one nuke, no nukes, or many nukes. They have oil…… and nothing more need be explained.
The truth is the truth. Only a few Americans ask why the American press and the US government…… have suddenly started to demonize Iran and its leaders with insults.
In recent weeks……. the mood in the US have shifted dramatically with all these negative stories about Iran and its leaders…..in the newspaper and on television and radio.
Even in the business news……… the US business and housing slump is beginning to be blamed on Iran….. rather than th 12 million illegals in the US and the many poor people who were loaned money for fancy houses……… and not pay for them.
So in the American media, Iran can do nothing to stop the mobilization of the American public to the war drumbeat to attack Iran. Nothing!
This shows that advertising really works in a free society! Free to be peaceful or free to mobilize toward war. All it takes is the proper marketing and sales pitch in order to “sell” a war.
Sadly, so it shall be.

Dear Anwaar,
For thousands of years, human beings lived in small groups which wandered over the landscape in search of food. Their young had to be protected and taught survival skills until they reached sexual maturity and could reproduce. Some member of the group, male or female, made decisions that the group followed, as seen in isolated tribes in historic time. The twin habits of giving and taking orders are deeply ingrained in the human psyche, if not hard-wired in our brains, like Chomsky’s “deep structure” for language.
This is a blessing in the sense that our children’s survival depends on their obedience, and a curse in the sense that a group’s success can lead to competition for leadership. This happened at Uruk for the first time six-thousand years ago.
The early Mesopotamian staple diet consisted of bread and beer. The small groups of people who had been stranded by the Holocene Younger Dryas event flourished and grew, eventually building a central bakery and brewery to make life easier for each household. Then they built houses nearby. As groups came in from the countryside, the first city, commonly defined as five-thousand people, was born.
Myth has always played a central role in human life. Each group had its myth and as the groups merged a larger myth also grew. The household shrine gave way to a central shrine. People brought offerings to their gods, and some person was designated to look after them. The temple and the priesthood were born. Then the offerings became mandatory and the state was born. The priest-king now made decisions for all the people.
Three-thousand years later, Nebuchadnezzar ruled from Babylon and fought with Egypt. Tired of the depredations of wandering tribes in the Levant, he had them rounded up and marched to Babylon. Being smart and keen observers, they started to cobble together all of the myths they knew about to create a state for themselves. It worked. After a couple of generations, the Persians took Babylon and Cyrus let them go.
Ze’ev Herzog, dean of Israeli archeology, wrote that there is no evidence of the Old Testament kingdoms: http://www.rense.com/general12/decon.htm
What are we to make of this? Three religion-states founded on myth and fraud have been at war for dominance for thousands of years and there is no end in sight. Our species is seriously, maybe terminally, flawed.
as ever,
Bob
nice one after a long pause.
If you want to read an excellent exposition of the American Way get a copy of The Secret History of the American Empire by John Perkins. He was a self-described EHM, Economic Hit Man that helped draw up the template that the US has used & adjusted to conquer ANY nation that has in its territory a commodity that The Corporatocracy covets. The Corporatocracy is a group of nations’ financial interests that implement these American “takeovers” to install the American puppets that will legitimize the parasitization of said any target nation.
The Machine that is the embodiment of this policy of covert absorption is the Free-Trade Fanatics. The trade is NOT free, the host country is sucked dry of all usable “commodities” then left for dead while the Machine moves on to the next target.
This has happened througout South America, Central America, Southeast Asia, The Middle East BUT the main target now is AFRICA. The two nations that receive the most US “aid” are Israel & Egypt. What continent is Egypt on?
But the signs of a slow death are becoming clearer and clearer. The US is going bankrupt–if the nations that hold our debt decide to collect the US will collapse.
Meanwhile our military-industrial-educational-telecommunicatons complex forges on with blinding incompetence and supreme arrogance. Our citizens watch the lies churned out on our “boob tubes” by the Mainstream Media and believe we are the good guys fighting for world security with altruism and benevolence that is always misunderstood and unappreciated by that world.
Our schools are crumbling, we have an illusory health care SYSTEM, our infrastructure is antquated and dangerous, our citizens are sheeple who would much rather sit and watch commerical idiocy than read a book or be a citizen with a sense of political urgency. In effect we are no longer the leaders of the FREE WORLD, (were we ever?) and we are painfully beginning to realize it.
How can I, an ashamed & discouraged American, say this?
1. The 2000 & 2004 elections we so close they were ALLOWED to be stolen. Bush lost both of them, chortled as he announced a MANDATE. The media brayed in obeisance.
2. 40% of Americans believe that Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11. Despite the fact that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell and Wolfowitz have PUBLICLY admitted that he DID NOT.
3. Our grand firmament, the US Constitution, is being peeled like an onion by a sadistic wolfpack of misanthropes that look forward to the Rapture–humankind be damned.
4. The top 1% of earners control 60% of the total wealth in the US. Guess what, they are scheming for MORE.
5. This hypcritical wolfpack has sodomized mothers, students, veterans, seniors, working men and women, minorities and they can still depend on 33& of eligible voters to select their footsoldiers as the solution to their problems. Inane, pathetic and masochistic.
6. The End Times series that distorts the Revelations to bamboozle a throng of millions into gleefully walking into a psyche-numbing meatgrinder in the hopes of joining the Eternal has sold 20,000,000 copies. These soon-to-be-sacrificed accept anything that is spouted like manna no matter how preposterous. Science is the enemy, hate-filled victimhood is the way to Valhalla.
The end is near…I just hope ALL of our friends around the world can forgive us and still find some compassion.
You see…some of us are still trying to get it right…and we won’t STOP.
I send a link, below that will point you to what has become epidemic in the USA over the last 2 years, police assaults on citizens for saying something they don’t like, one 17 year old girl for dropping a piece of cake, a 52 year old woman in a wheelchair who was mentally ill, tazered to death for failure to comply, a 26 year old Marine just back from his second tour in Iraq, and who had turned against the war, tazered to unconscienceness and then shot three times at point blank range in his heart, A student trying to ask John Kerry a question the police didn’t like, tasered and beaten into submission, a 9 year old girl who was screaming and upset at a hospital, as her mother lay there dying tazered because she didn’t comply with the police order to be quiet, a young man who stopped to park in a public parking lot, to meet a friend there, yanked out of his car, and told if he didn’t comply with answering all the police questions that he was being asked he would be beaten and locked up on felony charges, tazering a college student who was coming out of a political event, because he refused to show the police his ID(didn’t comply), I woman coming out of a bar tazered repeatedly because she wouldn’t get up off the ground, because due to the tazering she couldn’t and eventually she was pushed face first into a car, which will require reconstructive surgery to fix and why, well she didn’t comply.
No sorry expected over this from anyone, I just want our US Citizens to hear that there have been over 8000 police tazer assaults alone in the USA so far this year, and it is rising dramatically every day, so I would suggest to all US Citizens that you have lost your country to a now official Fascist Dictatorship, and if you don’t get out in the streets now, and start to fight, well Halliburton Corporation has just finished their contract to build concentration camps in the USA to hold another 25 million citizens on top of the 50 million spaces all ready built, thats fully half of our population. We’re way past letters and petitions here people, our government has declared war on us, are you going to roll over, or resist, your life now depends upon it.
http://prisonplanet.com/articl.....tality.htm
I would like to correct one thing I wrote above and then add another rather terrifying thought. The number of Concentration camp spaces now are for 75 million people, that’s just 1/4 of the population.
Now as for the scary, I’m quite sure my many fellow US Citizens are aware of the supposed accidental shipping of 6 live nuclear weapons, unsecures on the wings of a B-52 bomber from Minot N. Dakota to Barksdale AFB in Louisianna, well here is what is so interesting about this, the now announced number of these weapons at Barksdale AFB is 5, which means we have one missing 150 kiloton nuclear cruse missle in who’s hands, any ideas here????? Starting the 13th of October the exact same exercise that was taking place on 9-11 across the USA, is again taking place throughout the country, with one missing nuclear armed cruise missle somewhere in play. If I was living in a city during this time, particularly San Francisco, Boston and Washington DC, I’d go on vacation over this period of time, as the Bush Junta is just looking for an excuse to whack Iraq, and whack is the fitting term, that is what gangsters call killing someone, and we have gangsters running the USA, not so much Nazi, but gangsters with an insane godfather!
America walked away from her responsibilities a long time ago. God loved us and we loved God. We were winners who could not lose and we went out in a flood of greed so we could satisfy our ever need. Now we cannot come hack home, because we are covered with blood. This has always been our benediction since Bunker Hill.
I have but one criticism:
Your essays are too few and far between.
you will notice they provoke thoughtful, inspired replies.
Hats off to Robert and Jonathan.
Please remember,Anwaar my brother:
Our government and it’s policies DO NOT represent we the American people, and has not for a very long time…

Hello Anwaar,
“If wishes were horses” is a really painful article for Americans to read, because it shows how incredibly misinformed they are about their own country, let alone the rest of the world.
This country seems fast headed for a full fledged police state. I think at the base of all this global nightmare, is controlling money interests. Even the Buddha said war was all about wanting what belongs to others. Likely, anything that supports war mentality is favored, including dumbing down the population and impoverishing them.
I think the world is headed for big political change. After all, throughout history, the real mass murderers, have been almost entirely politicians, not mobs of people going after one another. I think change will come from below, because there is simply no place else to go, no more land to start a “new way of life”.
Thanks,
Don
Anwaar - If I may be so bold - I would like to render some qualified advice. Let me preface this council by stating that I agree with the vast part of the article - painfully- and sadly - it is virtually all true with the exception as I will note. Yes - my country IS a greedy tyrant - and its people - without ANY doubt are the must greedy, uneducated, selfish, irresponsible, shallow Godless hypocrits on earth. As a former US Army Airborne Special Operations commander - I am ashamed a times to even be called an ‘American’ - although - unlike these mindless thug mentality murderers in Iraq - I served with HONOR!
One pitfall which I have always tried to avoid is to keep my mouth shut when speaking of matters of which I am ignorant - at least until I learn the TRUTH.
Your observant dissertation was brutally true with one glaring exception. your use of Nicaragua as a prime example of our imperialism was inapropriate, inaccurate and disinformative. You see - I was there when it all happened - and you have fallen into a trap cleverly set by the Marxists in this country.
I spent time with the intellgence community in the ‘belly of this monster’ and was priviledged to know EXACTLY what REALLY happened there. Without going into matters that have taken me half a lifetime to garner the knowledge and experience to speak on this matter with UNIQUE authority - I will say only that you are absolutely subjectively and objectively wrong on your perception the the Nicaraguan matter. I would be glad to discuss what I know through experinece with you at anytime.
If you knew my background in this matter you would understand. This is one of those few times when we were actually the ‘good guys’. The only ‘death squads’ in Nicaragua were run by Marxixts ideologues supported by Cuba Vietnam USSR and American leftists - PERIOD! Much of the information I gathered there was at personal risk of my own life. The Sandinista FSLN and neighboring FMLN were BOTH terrorist by nature.
The Democrat Party of the US was so eaten up by Marxist sentiment at the time - it was no surprise to me that they supported Ortega and his Godless Soviet subsidized ilk. We may have opportunized - businesswise - Nicaragua and other ‘bananna republics there in the past ( I was also a foreign Consul to one of these CA countries years ago) - but Communist ambitions in Nicaragua and El Salvador were VERY real and VERY terrorist! What we did to fight this REAL menace was NOT enough!
NEVER FORGET - the communist - like the Jew - is a master of lies deceit and deception.
My offer to you for the TRUTH - NOT ‘my truth’ - but the GOD’S HONEST TRUTH of these matters - are available if you desire to learn them.
Otherwise - please keep up your observations and reminders of what brutal hypocrites we have become in this once great country. I couldn’t agree more.
Sincerely - Joe Cortina
Hello Joe,
Thank you for your very enlightening comment. Thank you all, in fact.
Joe, I gave the Nicaragua example of US imperialism not because it was the most glaring one, there are examples galore, but because in this one the United States was, after lengthy legal deliberations, openly certified as a terrorist country by none other than the ICJ. Secondly, most of us do not have the benefit of having been in Nicaragua to personally witness the events or, as you put it, “spent time with the intelligence community in the ‘belly of this monster’” and/or “were privileged to know EXACTLY what REALLY happened there or to have spent half a lifetime to garner the knowledge and experience to speak on this matter with UNIQUE authority”.
Thus, devoid of such an insight, the following is what we the world know of the Nicaraguan episode. You would probably bear me out that this is what the rest of the world knows of the Nicaragua case…more or less.
In Nicaragua, the United States backed the Somoza government, which used the National Guard to brutally murder thousands of Nicaraguan citizens. The Sandinistas organized a very popular rebellion which overthrew and expelled the Samoza regime.
Samoza left Nicaragua $1.5 billion in debt, and, concurrently, the United States engaged in an illegal campaign to stop the Sandinistas. The Contras were not just “rebels armed and organized by the U.S.” Active and violent , they were Honduran, Salvadoran and Costa Rican mercenary groups, along with members of Samoza’s old National Guard, illegally funded by the CIA against the will of the U.S. Congress.
Furthermore, the United States also mined harbors and ports and disrupted commerce, leading to a suit filed by Nicaragua in the International Court of Justice, or ICJ, for violation of sovereignty. After the ICJ ruled in favor of Nicaragua, the United States set an international precedent by pulling out of the court.
Interestingly, while during this time, the Sandinistas were forced to spend half of the Gross Domestic Product on defense against the onslaught, they still somehow managed to make healthcare and education completely free and widely accessible, build 52 new hospitals and cut infant mortality in half. The Sandinistas were not perfect for many reasons, but they were chosen by the Nicaraguans who died to overthrow Samoza.
A war-torn and bleeding Nicaragua did not elect Ortega in 1987. From the revolution in 1979 until that election, the United States ensured that the fighting never stopped in Nicaragua. The Sandinistas were once popular and are still. The United States cannot represent the people of Nicaragua, and if Nicaragua decides Ortega can, that is their business.
According to some estimates, the disruption of the economy during the Contra period put Nicaragua centuries behind the United States. The ICJ agreed that the U.S. acted illegally and violated the sovereignty of Nicaragua or, in other words, terrorized that nation.
Now Joe, please do let us know if there is something else that you have. Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with your views, your comments are as eagerly anticipated as they will be respected. We all would be keen to learn from that, I am sure.
Bests,
Anwaar
