The Happening
Print & pdfBy Bill Noxid
It seems like a belabored point, but there is just no escaping it. Mainstream media continues to be the most critical (and probably the most accessible) impediment to the evolution of the species. The American ( and global ) populous remain physiologically corralled by the mock reality the media delivers, which makes any attempt to impart or understand the truth extremely difficult.
The problem is that once you are part of the lie, you are part of the lie. This is why I repeatedly stress the importance of being honest with oneself at all times. It’s not a matter of being caught in the lie, it’s the fact that the lie will catch you. It is inescapable because you have made it part of your reality. As long as you choose to live by that lie that you have accepted, you have to support ( and do ) whatever is necessary to sustain that lie.

Of Family Jewels and Scapegoats
Print & pdfA missive to Mr. Richard Boucher, US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs
By Anwaar Hussain
Judging by your call to ‘reform the ISI’, you, sir, seem to be in dire need of some advice.
We understand that you are stung by your abject failure in Iraq and the looming near total disaster in Afghanistan, what with the empire now teetering at its outer most edge and your imperial carpetbaggers out in a frenzied search for a scapegoat. It is perhaps on their urging that you now think in ISI you have a scapegoat and in Pakistan an escapegoat. You, sir, are as far from reality as the Mars from planet Earth. Neither will prove to be a goat of any kind for you.
There are reasons that I say this.
First, with a 3-million strong tribal population, with every Pathan armed to the gills and caring not a fig for even his own life and an honor code as primitive and rigid as the Hindukush, and a million strong nuclear armed Pakistan army at their back, you want to tread very softly in this region. The dispute with these Pathans is an internal one and the Pakistanis know how to deal with each other. While between them this dispute may take years to resolve, resolve it will in the end. However, your entering into the fray will instantly evaporate any ill will that the warring parties have for each other, uniting them in an unreserved hate for your country. Despite the well established facts of your limitless ruthlessness as was witnessed against the Iraqis and your ability to lay waste to the entire region, they will go for your collective throat with a ferocity that will make you forget what you have seen thus far. Please be careful in taking Pakistan for an escapegoat or the FATA for an escape route.

Death Becomes Her: Let’s Make Her Our President
Print & pdfOn Sarah Palin
Jason Miller
Savage animal slaughterer that she is, it’s apt that Sarah Palin has now brutally plunged a razor-sharp knife into the very heart of the seemingly invincible doubts concerning her capacity to be Vice-President of the United States. Wielding her chutzpah with the awe-inspiring deftness with which she employs her gun or rifle when hunting defenseless wolves or moose, she appeared on 20/20 and left our skepticism writhing on the ground in agony, immersed in its own blood and gasping its last.
Given her virtuoso performance with Charlie Gibson a few nights ago, John McCain might as well croak now and get it over with. She’s ready for the presidency. All the cynics who dared to question her qualifications to become VP now have about as much credibility as card-carrying members of the Flat Earth Society.
Sarah Palin is the person we need (and deserve) to lead us on our incessant quest for global hegemony and in our ongoing orgiastic gang rape of the Earth. A former beauty pageant contestant noted for her fierce competitiveness who would easily qualify as an actress in the B-grade movies and who takes great pride in her capacity to stick her head up her behind and go for it instead of “blinking,” this “lipstick pitbull” embodies nearly all that we worship in a nation fueled principally by narcissism, arrogance, willful ignorance, and belligerence. She may lack the obscene wealth that also triggers our reflexive genuflection, but she will acquire that in time.

The End of the Myths
Print & pdfBy Bill Noxid
It took a particularly long time to find any hint of reality on television yesterday. I decided that I wasn’t interested in watching the still complicit media and criminally culpable government pretend to morn the deaths of September 11, so my options were even more limited than usual. All of the cable networks were obviously covering themselves ( MSNBC even went as far as to cover itself covering itself minute by minute seven years ago ) and CSPAN was at the Pentagon. What fantastic choices… a seven year ditch or a false-flag memorial park. Therefore, unless I felt like tracking Ike, CNBC financial was my only remaining option.
To my surprise however, CNBC turned out to be a reasonably good choice. Not that the unfortunate masses of this country would know about anything other than lipstick and pigs but this imaginary economy is collapsing like the house of cards that it is, and they were actually talking about it for a change. I suspect after eight years of blowing smoke up each other’s behinds about how great the economy is, they’ve run out of ways to convince themselves this isn’t really happening. Even Jim Cramer, when asked by Erin Burnett if we were really at risk of Great Depression II, gave a very enthusiastic full body nod in the affirmative…

Defend Science!
Print & pdfAn Urgent Call by Scientists
IN THE UNITED STATES TODAY SCIENCE, AS SCIENCE, IS UNDER ATTACK AS NEVER BEFORE.
The signs of this are everywhere. The attacks are coming at an accelerating pace, and include frequent interventions by powerful forces, in and out of the Bush Administration, who seem all too willing to deny scientific truths, disrupt scientific investigations, block scientific progress, undermine scientific education, and sacrifice the very integrity of the scientific process itself — all in the pursuit of implementing their particular political agenda. And today this dominant political agenda is profoundly allied and intertwined with an extremist (and extremely anti-science) ideological agenda put forward by powerful fundamentalist religious forces commonly known as the Religious Right. These fundamentalists now have extensive influence and representatives in major institutions of the U.S. government, including Congress and the White House. This itself goes a long way towards explaining why science itself is under such unprecedented attack.
It is commonplace under the current Administration for the government to deny funding, censor scientific reports, or in other ways undermine scientific research which might turn up facts which they don’t want to hear; to manipulate, distort, or outright suppress scientific findings they find objectionable; to attempt to reshape government scientific panels to obtain policy recommendations on issues ranging from health to the environment, based less on actual scientific findings than on the requirements of the Administration’s agenda.

The Falling Land
Print & pdfBy Chris Floyd
There is, apparently, to be no end to our falling. No bottom to the pit of moral nullity through which we keep plunging, no act of evil which we will not accept, and countenance, and even cheer.
At one time, it required great lies — elaborate, monstrous deceits, wrapped in myths of goodness and light — to disguise the brutal machinations of raw power. Otherwise, it was thought, the people might rise up in anger at the crimes being committed in their name, thus threatening the primacy and privilege of the elite.
But this proved to be unnecessary in the end. The foulest deeds could be done in broad daylight, in full view of the world, before the eyes of our children, without the slightest consequence for the perpetrators. The crowd would applaud, or, at worst, simply shrug and move on.
Actions and policies drawn from the horror stories of history — things which the people had been taught to abominate from the day they were born — were freely and openly embraced.

Pop goes the Weasel
Print & pdfWelcome to the Great Game with the same battlefield but different protagonists, different battle cries and different weapon yields.
By Anwaar Hussain
On 26th August 2008, barely two weeks back, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kiyani met with Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen aboard USS Abraham Lincoln that has been anchored somewhere in the Indian Ocean for more than a month now.
It was a star-studded affair. Other than the Admiral, the attendees included Gen David Petraeus, the top American commander in Iraq, who will soon leave to become the senior commander in the Middle East; Adm Eric T Olson, head of the Special Operations Command; Gen David McKiernan, NATO’s commander in Afghanistan; Lt-Gen Martin E Dempsey, acting commander of American forces in the Middle East; and Rear Adm Michael LeFever, American military liaison in Pakistan. General Kiyani was accompanied by another unnamed Pakistani General; most probably the Director General of ISI. Reportedly, the meeting was conducted in a relaxed ambience and ended on a note of positive understanding between the participants.
General Kiyani had barely set foot on solid land when pop went the weasel.

And Then We Will Die
Print & pdfBy Angie Riedel
It is time to get past the ‘death and violence is the answer’ mentality. We can not afford to let it continue.
The US government now confronts every minor inconvenience with brutality and force. With lies. With tricks. With deceit. With unrivaled hypocrisy. It speaks a scripted and rehearsed dialog of illogic and insults. It changes the meanings of words and uses those words as weapons to crush, to silence and oppress, to steal what it wants. This government no longer shows respect for anyone but itself and feels no compulsion to listen or cooperate, to show respect for others, or to care at all about right and wrong, truth or lies, justice or injustice.
It seems that this government can’t take a single step without stepping on others, without breaking the very laws it exists to uphold, without negating every principle we stand for.
At what point will this criminality cease?
It is no surprise that we are seeing our own citizens being brutalized and arrested for imaginary political crimes before any crimes are committed; and when there is no possibility that they will be committed. For this government there is no longer any concept of innocence until guilt is proven in a court of law. A court of law un-tampered with, a court uncontrolled by compromised loyalists, a court left free to honor its commitment to see justice done. There is no longer any concept of requiring proof of any crime at all.

Asif Ali Zardari and the battle to hold Pakistan together
Print & pdfBy Ahmed Rashid
It is a sign of the times in Pakistan that Asif Ali Zardari, the man elected president today, had to move from his heavily fortified house in Islamabad to the even more heavily fortified prime minister’s residence. And not a moment too soon. There was an assassination attempt on prime minister Yousuf Raza Gailani on Wednesday. Zardari, the controversial widower of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who spent nine years in jail facing charges of corruption, is now the principal target for al-Qaeda and the Pakistani Taliban. His past and the fact that he has never held political office are the main concerns of most Pakistanis, but his presidency could determine nothing less than the future of his nuclear-armed state and the West’s war on terror.
Pakistan has, since the September 11 attacks, become home to al-Qaeda’s leadership and a gathering point for the Taliban, who continue to challenge Nato in neighbouring Afghanistan. The new president’s resolve will not only be tested by how he tackles these threats but also by the growing problem of Pakistan’s own Islamic fundamentalists. These groups, which often have links to the Taliban, are fostering an atmosphere in the country’s religious schools, or madrassas, which British intelligence officials believe could help indoctrinate youths into committing acts of terror on Britain’s streets. The greatest fear for many is that if Pakistan’s civilian government becomes weaker and more discredited in the eyes of the public, it could be toppled by Islamists. This holds out the prospect of fundamentalists winning control of a nuclear-armed state for the first time.

Yes, we’re matricidal
Print & pdfMurdering Mother Earth one forest, one species and one atom at a time
By Jason Miller
I am the earth. You are the earth. The Earth is dying. You and I are murderers.
–Ymber Delecto
What a sorry lot we humans are, particularly those of us immersed in the “American Way of Life.” Killing is indeed our business. And business has never been better.
According to the World Resources Institute, 4 species go extinct every hour “due to tropical deforestation alone.”
More than half the tropical rainforests are gone and at the rate we’re going, we will have reduced chopped, hacked, sawed, dozed, and burned our way to the virtual eradication of the “lungs of the planet” by the year 2030.
Kids, get ready to start suffocating because we’re NOT giving up our meat habit! Patrick Henry was prepared to die for liberty, but we have a nobler agenda: Give us more grazing land or give us death!
Reflecting the spiritually perverse beings we are here in America (don’t be fooled by our carefully polished veneer of civility and humanity—we’re the most savage murderers of all) is the fact that we are considering replacing our “commander-in-chief,” (the most heinous war criminal since Hitler) with a senile war-mongering septuagenarian and his recently anointed reactionary sidekick who never met a non-human animal she wouldn’t slaughter or an ecosystem she wouldn’t decimate in the name of “hunting,” “free enterprise,” or “resource acquisition.”

In the United Vegetative State of America, Anwaar Hussain, a Masters in Defense and Strategic Studies, delivers a comprehensive and unsettling analysis of the dissolution of liberty in America and how an administration of neo-conservatives is using the threat of lost freedoms and increased terrorism as a justification for international aggression and violence.
