A Letter to America

With your election of Barack Hussein Obama, you have almost realized the dream of Martin Luther King. Now truly you have a chance to rise up as a nation and live out the proper meaning of the creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

Now you have an opportunity to ensure that ‘on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners indeed are able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood’. Now is the time to make certain that your great country does really get ‘transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice’. Now is that moment in time to become color blind forever to the skin tones of not just your countrymen but of all the citizens of our planet. Do that and you have arrived.

But before you can join Barack Obama’s sweet lilting voice in singing, Free at last! Free at last!, Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!, you have one last ritual to perform. And that is the killing of the demons of your recent past lest they come back to haunt you yet again. Unless you perform that sacred rite too, this transformation stands incomplete.

Look around yourselves and you will see on your national scene the authors of your misfortunes still strutting about in full vigor. Your dictator president with a God-complex, your conceited leaders with a talent in exploitation, your self-righteous and egotistical political elites who dived to the murkiest depths to perpetuate their  villainous rule and your bigoted religious leaders who poured venom in the name of God; all are there.

Switch on a TV channel, read a newspaper report, listen to the radio and you will find that the supporting cast of parasites, plunderers and human lowlifes, who helped your previous masters put on the gaudy show full of blood and gore, are fast camouflaging themselves to ensure the survival of their craft. With the latest change in the political landscape of your country, they are about to merge with the background wherefrom they will stalk your great nation, lying in wait, for a chance to seize its jugular once more; this time for good if they can help.

Let it not be forgotten that they seized power to wage wars of aggression in defiance of the U.S. Constitution, the U.N. Charter and the rule of law and in the process they lied not just to the people of the U.S. and to the U.S. Congress, but to the whole world through the U.N., providing false and deceptive rationales for war. They violated and subverted the Charter of the United Nations and international law to commit with impunity crimes against peace and humanity and war crimes in orchestrated wars.

Do not forget that these are the original sadistic authors of the Afghan and Iraq wars and the resultant mass genocide, the usage of horrible weapons of war, the Patriot Act, torture, water boarding, Abu Ghuraib, Guantánamo, falsified intelligence, the global economic depression, the Katrina debacle, wire tapping, loss of Habeas Corpus, vetoing of stem cell bill, Blackwater mercenaries; you name it. There is not a crime in the book that they did not commit.

You simply cannot gloss over the fact that they authorized, ordered and condoned assassinations, summary executions, kidnappings, secret and other illegal detentions of individuals, torment and physical and psychological coercion of prisoners to obtain fraudulent statements. And that they themselves made, ordered and condoned phony statements and propaganda about the conduct of other governments and individuals and acts by U.S. government personnel, manipulated the media and foreign governments with bogus information and concealed information vital to forming informed public opinion in order to create a sham climate of fear and destroy opposition to their wars of aggression.

It is not a secret any more that in the past eight years, along with ordering indefinite detention without charge of non-citizens in the United States and elsewhere, they also authorized secret military tribunals and summary executions of such persons. Not only that, they acted to strip you, dear Americans, of your constitutional and human rights, ordering your indefinite detention, without access to counsel, without charge, and without opportunity to appear before a civil judicial officer to challenge the detention.

It is common knowledge now that other than Abu Ghuraib and Guantánamo Bay, where detainees have included children as young as 11-years-old and where some detainees were held for half a decade without charge or trial, America’s torture trails at present crisscross the entire globe. In the last eight years, America became the biggest patron of torture by proxy in the history of planet earth. There was no depth low enough to which America did not plummet in that period.

The horrendous irony of it all is that due to the idiotic conceit of your previous rulers, the arc of crises, instead of being contained, now extends from the seashores of the Mediterranean to the borders of Pakistan and beyond. Not just Pakistan, which is now in the fits of near fatal spasms for choosing to be your most allied ally, almost half the world is in turmoil with America stoked flames of unrest devouring innocent human beings at will. If the phony ‘war on terror’ was meant to contain radical Islam, your last administration has now given it a violent momentum of a magnitude it could never have hoped to achieve on its own.

So misgoverned and misinformed have you been these past eight years that without your being aware, America today has become the most despised country with you being the most reviled people despite being the most insecure in your history. Your economy is in shambles with depression looming large on the horizons. Your wars are almost lost with your country firmly stuck in the desolate wastelands of that graveyard of Empires; Afghanistan.

Now, however, you have done yourselves proud by showing to the rest of the world that only in America would millions of white voters turn out in hordes to elect the son of a Kenyan Muslim Negro as their supreme commander, only in America. By this singularly remarkable act of supporting him in his journey from the lynch mobs to the White house, you have once again launched your country firmly on recovery path from the dank depths of the fascist swamps to the glory heights that should have been America’s always.

But you are not out of the dumps, not just yet.

And that is because the charlatans who destroyed the lives of millions of people when they were at the center stage of the world still abound. You can see of course, unless you are blind to color red as a nation, that now that the curtain is about to fall on their act, rivulets of blood are flowing every which way on the stage. You need to ask yourselves a simple question; can these killers be forgiven?

On his website, your President-elect says, “Today we begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is just a little bit better than the one we inherited.” How can that be if the murderers of today are left to roam scot-free in the world of our children?

You, dear Americans, are being seen as the accomplices of these ruthless killers unless you ask for the hangman’s ropes.

What shall it be my friends?

    Dear Anwaar,

    Omama is a racist of the worst kind. His life (so far) has been opposed to looking at people by the content of their character. He sees only the color of one’s skin. Unimportant really, it is an internal matter.

    The G-4 jets pull into Washington loaded with the auto compant beggars looking for me to pay the $80 per hour bill for each US auto worker. Things in Foggy Bottom have not changed. The new administration will still ruin world financial markets.

    It was a nice thought that hope for change, unfortunately it was only a political slogan. As the gansters nationalize US assets, their thirst for building larger government power can only grow.

    It is a new crew but the same field of play.

    Al Jolsen alias Mr O Bama is bought and sold goods. The ameriKan masses have fallen once more for the pepsi coke happy meals “choice” of the same agenda two party shell game.

    You’ve got the best little bloated democracy that scrip money can buy and the rest of the world knows whose cash has paid for the latest afro amerikan addition in the “White” House.

    After Uncle Tom Powell and Aunt Jemima Rice it should come as no surprise that being black doesn’t make Mr O Bama Martin Luther.

    Let’s hope that the gangrene now all pervasive through USer society will finish the job with the same team of usual suspects that O bama has foisted on this long suffering gullible nation.

    Onward thru the fog to our Titanic destiny with Capn’ O Bama!

    Thank you, Anwaar, for reminding us so eloquently of the darkness in America that has yet to be acknowledged and integrated into our national narrative. I completely agree that the criminals must be brought to justice if America is to be redeemed and the evil in the world to be given notice that it cannot get away with atrocities.

    Just think of it, Anwaar, you are more literate than at least half the population of the United States, and you were born in Pakistan!

    What a beautiful article on President-elect Obama!

    This can only happen in USA where a son of a Negro can become the President of the Country. It can only be compared to my Hindu sweeper’s son after getting best possible education becomes the President or PM of Pakistan. Not in a thousand years!

    We are destined to have Bilawal & Asifa & “Not too Sharif Brothers” sons & daughters as our future leaders.

    It is a very lucid & well written expose. I am in agreement with your views and enjoyed other comments too. But I do not share Mr. Riaz’s cynicism.
    I haven’t seen any other nationality demeaning own country/ nation as much as we Pakistanis do. I am living abroad for a long time now and can say that with explicit conviction. Bravo Pakistanis!
    Mind you sir, it has taken free world leader COUNTRY over two centuries to reach this stage.
    One US intelligence top official praised Iranian society as an intensely integrated & patriotic one for it was most difficult, according to him, to buy spies/ informers. BUT in the same breath he proceeded on to state that no real endeavor was required to solicit ANY type of support from Pakistanis. Bravo Pakistanis!
    Who need external enemies in such a scenario? Bravo Pakistanis!

    Mr. Riaz Khan, I usually do not get into serious discussions, but you make America sound like the land of the PURE, there are as many crooks and criminals, liars, cheats and murders as there are in Pakistan or for that matter, any other country in the world. There are good and bad people EVERYWHERE.. American cannot be all good and Pakistan cannot be all bad.

    I like the way you think and feel for the country you have adopted i.e. America ….

    If one chooses to migrate and take on the nationality of another country then one MUST feel and embrace ones new homeland with the same feeling and sincerity as you have.…..that is why I think you are so well adjusted and happy there.

    Your letter to America is well inspired. I just wonder, if your long (but justified) list of condemnations is not too much for the ordinary US’ citizen. It seems people always need leaders, even if these leaders are criminals. I suppose, that only after Obama will be in office as the new leader and will have gathered a staff of honest people around him, then ordinary citizens may turn away more easily from the criminals. If I were you, I would write another letter in January.

    I think the American sons of Trotsky, who you correctly condemn, came to the attention of a bumbling old man in 2000. Having good reason to fear their published intentions, he set the American economy on a path to certain destruction. And so it is.

    Anwaar, Obama’s election has inspired many people like us all around the world. It renewed my faith in democracy after it was hijacked by the right wing religious nuts.

    But I don’t think the Obama government will be able to fix a lot of the damage already done by the “god fearing” folks. The simplistic thinking of the American political process of the last 30 plus years has destroyed the economy and the environment. That’s what you get for electing comfirmed dummies to power.

    Thank you for the optimistic letter, I too was emotionally moved by the change.

    My wife was not a genius.
    She was not an insider.
    She was not a daughter of the 1% that has held this nation in a death grip…
    She died last year of leukemia.
    She never had a chance.
    She insisted that I RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE.
    What else can I do?
    Fear is only in our minds…
    Hope is stronger than fear,just as surely as
    love is stronger than hate.

    * Excellent article.
    * Some comments are inserted within your article below.

    While Obama’s election finally gives expression to “real” equality between the whites
    and their erstwhile slaves, my personal feeling is that not too much will change.

    The change will be in nuance, rather than in substance.
    The Americans believe in democracy as a means to choosing their own leader.
    The leader is chosen to look after the selfish interests of ordinary Americans.
    How this is achieved on the world stage is immaterial.

    Americans do not give a shit whether their oil is procured by killing a million in Eyerack,
    or by propping up a racist regime in Israel.

    Unfortunately, whatever altruism exists in Obama’s mind today shall have to be moderated,
    as very quickly he will be forced to consider how he will get re-elected in 2012.

    HE WILL THEN HAVE TO ADOPT MAINSTREAM POLICIES. VERY SOON. WITHIN TWO YEARS.

    He already has Rahm Emmanuel SELECTED AS CHIEF OF STAFF as a pointer to show “business
    as usual” as far as Palestine is concerned. The full support to Israel policy will not change.

    Sorry - I have gone on a wander with my own thoughts, instead of commenting on your article.
    But I hope these thoughts are useful.

    I looked into Rahm Emmanuel’s background,and it would appear your concern is justified.I voted for Obama because he was the candidate that little imp of Satan(Bush) did not want.(And to keep Grumpy and Winky away from the nuclear football)…No one was gonna come close to being elected without AIPEC’s approval.It is to be hoped that he will govern moderately, and the Neocon agenda will at least be curtailed,if not tossed into the trashbin where it belongs.A lot of Americans would like to see the era of fossil fuels,and the chaos and misery it causes,come to an end.Some of us are working hard for that goal.I have misgivings-Obama seems to be staffing his cabinet with hawks and Zionists.At any rate I’m sure his administration will be more tolerable than Mcain/Palin,and it’s gotta be better than what we just went through…

    Most people of the world today, don’t even understand how they’ve been manipulated their whole lives. From believing that a Democrat is better than a Republican, that my church is better than yours, I have a BIGGER HOUSE than you. All of it created by the media. The media could have been a useful tool in the building of a great world. In stead it is used to manipulate people and their money. These same people have over-run our education system, our political system, our police forces and every other form of Taxed Dollars? As long as we can print money from thin air, we will never be saved! Please wake up America, your spending habits is the only thing that will help! Stop feeding the GREEDY!
